It’s all about building community

Free competitive soccer
Kisumu Greenland FC was formed in the year 2011 with aim of doing away with idle minds by engaging the kids both boys and girls in Manyatta Slum and other disadvantaged areas through soccer as a tool for general behavior change and community development. We have junior team from ages 9 to 16 years both girls and boys and also a youth team who have grown and graduated from our junior teams. Our junior teams mostly participate in grassroot league (Kisumu Greenland Slum Score Supa League) and friendly matches or tournaments organized by our staff. In this league it is more about engaging and making the players have fun, learn, develop and grow in sport while taking part in the competition with other teams from the grassroots level.
Our youth team are participants in FKF Sub-County League which is more competitive. At this level, our youth learn the importance of working as team ,winning, settings goals and also improving and developing their skills and talents. The competition is more challenging and also it's a platform to help our youth team to showcase their talents and have exposure. This league also has helps our youth team to be engaged and not to indulge themselves in bad behaviors like drugs or crime.

Free hygiene and Sanitary programs
In our community, there are big issues about hygiene and sanitary towels for girls. In Kisumu Greenland FC we have come up with initiatives to help to promote good hygiene to our kids and help our girls to access free sanitary towels.
For dental hygiene, we teach our players the importance of having and practicing a good dental hygiene. We donate toothpaste and toothbrush to our kids and also to the community at large every two or three months by the help friends.
We also provide bar soap and educate people in the society about the importance of washing hands with soap and water. We also make our players to understand why it's important for them to have a good personal hygiene by bathing daily and putting on clean clothes. We at times donate clothes, school uniforms, school shoes, school bags, stationaries to the needy or kids from humble backgrounds. This programs helps them to boost their moral and feel confident while learning in school and playing soccer .
The issue about sanitary towels is also a big problem affecting our community being more than 80% are living below the poverty line hence they are not in a position to afford. In Kisumu Greenland FC we have a program that helps to provide sanitary towels and also to create awareness to the community about the importance of donating and supporting our girls with sanitary towels by the help of friends. This has helped the girls to continue learning and feeling confident while doing their daily routine in our society. It has reduced cases of school dropout and also helped our girls avoid sexual activity to earn money to buy sanitary towels themselves.
Free Environment based initiaves
In Kisumu Greenland FC we do value and love our ecosystem and environment.
We have initiative programs that help to build and maintain our environment. These programs include cleaning and collecting garbage around our community at least once a month. In this program we always engage the people in the community by inviting parents and teams participating in our Slum Score Supa League to help do the cleaning with our Youth Team. We also create awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment and also it's a way of giving back to the community.
We also have a program of planting trees in our community once in a while. We usually go to schools and plant trees and also educate our players and the community about the importance of planting trees in our society .
